Best. Socks. Ever.

The Great Sock Hunt Ends with the L.L. Bean Merino Wool Ragg Sock for Men or Women

A great pair of socks should be good looking, have natural fibers, stay up, and have good color options. Sounds simple. But it is surprisingly difficult to find a great pair. Given how many places sell socks, this should not take much attention.

Measured against competition the best is the Merino Wool Ragg Sock from L.L. Bean. In fact, it is not just the best sock, it is our only acceptable sock for casual wear.

What they call Grey is the most classic color although they offer them in Brown, Forest, Charcoal and Indigo as well. They are as they claim, itch free. Made is the U.S.A., with wool from Australia. They come in heights of 10 inches (best for wearing with hiking shoes and shorts, or with Birkenstocks) or 12 inches.
L.L. Bean used to offer a 16 inch as well, perfect for wearing with winter boots, which they should bring back. The socks stay up, keep you warm and look fabulous (despite some pilling). And most importantly, they are the only sock to wear with Birkenstocks.

I have to disagree. I feel the LL Bean hiking socks are better. The Ragg Wool are a bit hard and streach out easily.

We may disagree here. :)

I am wearing the Ragg Wool right now in 90 degree heat and they are performing, as they always do, perfectly. Having said that, I know many Registered Maine Guides who wear both, and love their hiking socks.

I do love this sock until I picked up a three pack at Costco. They are now my go to but can only be worn in the winter as they are toasty.

Have you tried the Smartwool brand socks? I find them to be far superior to the Bean Ragg socks in almost every way.
