L.L. Bean's Scotch Plaid Flannel Shirt for Men
I have yet to find a better made and more aesthetically pleasing flannel shirt than the classic L.L. Bean Scotch Plaid Flannel Shirt. Each Fall, a new batch of Scottish tartans arrive, to compliment the always available (thus far) Black Watch.
These shirts have that sought after combination of being well made and sturdy, and exceptionally soft, made of brushed Portuguese flannel. They "weather" nicely, have a generous cut, and an attractive price of only $29.50. These are sine qua non for a classic New England wardrobe.

I'll hope with you-Dress Campbell is beautiful.
First comment I've left on your blog but this seemed an appropriate start. I couldn't agree more! Fall is here and there's nothing better than khakis and an L.L.Bean flannel shirt. Great blog, by the way. I am a regular visitor.
Darn! I knew better that to look at this LLB site. What really jumped out was TA 266207. What BB used to call a "fun plaid" pattern, chamois shirt. Pointed, not button down collar.
Cost is $89.
Is this totally out of the question for those days when you are feeling iconoclastic, and don't mind your friends, who usually see you in drab stuff, calling 911 when you show up?
Ryan - The Dress Campbell in the post is fifteen years old and I never wear it because I can't replace it and I don't want it to wear out.
Sam - So glad you commented and I agree. We all live in them until it gets cold enough to graduate to Chamois Shirts.

Muffy,
While ironing an LL Bean flannel this very morning I thought of you. So imagine my surprize to read your post today. I had the picture of your father in mind, the one in which he is wearing an oxford under what looks to be a Bean chamois cloth shirt. Very nice style. And I thought about your love of Bean's men's wear and these flannel shirts and then one thought led to another I realized that you rarely mention your mother. I wondered why.
In other news...
Perhaps Diablo is picking up something that I am finding myself. That you are just one of those compelling people. I have never in my life followed anyone else's blog and have no intention of doing so. Yet I find myself wondering why I keep coming back to the daily prep. Perhaps it is because you are always spot on in your observations. But I think it is something else. Something mysterious. I see big things on your horizon. Martha Stewart scale! keep up the good work.
Michigan - My poor mother. I never mention her because she has a house here on the property and I see her, what seems like, eighty times a day! My mother is wonderful, and even better, she lets me buy all of her clothes!
You are far too generous! I very much appreciate your comments!
L.L. Bean is a truly wonderful company. This Friday, Bowdoin College is Honoring Alumnus Leon Gorman with the Bowdoin Award.

There is something so comforting about a flannel shirt.
I agree with you, these are great shirts.
Muffy, what do you think of this season's Black Stewart? Also, would recommend any of the other patterns, besides Black Watch and Dress Gordon of course.
@Anonymous -I like most tartans. I find that I do not love nor hate the Black Stewart and will be giving it to a family member whom I believe will like it quite a bit. I bought MacKenzie Old for myself this fall.
