We drove down to the New Haven station and caught a train to Grand Central.
Other plans precluded attending Evensong at Saint Thomas Church, but we were at least able to hear the organist rehearsing.
We then headed over to the corporate offices of Tiffany, where we talked to some of the executives there.
And yes, I had to change my shoes on the street on the way over before heading in.
We then headed back to the apartment for the party.
My son and I watched the three pianists come in (one for each grand piano).

And Marty Vidnovic, with his booming voice, showing us with impromptu singing why he got his Tony nod. (Again, our "home movies" below.)

And now, we are back in the country for a very quiet Christmas.

A lovely way to spend Christmas Eve.
Happy Holidays to you and yours as well!
Looks like a wonderful Christmas Eve. Happy Christmas and a Joyous New Year to you and yours.
Muffy, I love your slacks, BUT I actually own a pair like Edwards, although mine have a navy plaid rather than black like his. (Brooks Brothers).
Merry Christmas and I look forward to hearing more from you in 2011.
Look how your boy towers over you!
What a wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve. Love those pants. I need a pair of those.
Looks like a very festive evening. Nice to see Lee Roy Reams on the video again proving he is the best song and dance men in America!
Best wishes to all for a Merry Christmas and please remember our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who serving abroad. Their dedication and courage enable our freedom.
@Mona - Thank you. A bunch of us stay over, and the following morning has that chummy, dorm room feel, with apartment doors propped open, and dogs wandering in and out. Happy Holidays to you!
@James - Merry Christmas! Thank you, and it is a wonderful, and I might add, wildly over-stimulating, tradition.
@Kathie - I would love a pair like Edward's! Now I have to see if BB still has them.
@TP&G - I know! He's just about 6'3". It makes it a wee bit more difficult to be "the boss".
@Tammy B - These are my twelve year old Lillys, which have a much roomier cut than with most I try on today, which I prefer. I then, of course, utter "I should have bought more", a phrase which my husband says will be my epitaph!
@old - You are so right abut Lee Roy! I can't tell you what a thrill it is every year to have the opportunity to stand five feet away from him as he does his thing. Anyone who is reading these comments and has not played the clip, let me encourage you to do so!
I echo your sentiments towards reaching out to our Armed Forces - both currently serving oversees and also those active service men and woman who are currently home on leave, for whom it is even easier to make a direct, positive, and needed impact.
Good times, fabulous parties and great friends. Life is full and good isn't it?
Christmas Eve evensong with without question my favorite service of the year. If I'd had the choice of that or the even you attended, though, I admit it would have been a very close thing, indeed!
Merry Christmas!
@Susan - It is indeed, Susan! And we can add to that great horses and dogs!
@Marsha - I was able to catch some of it last year, so I wasn't quite as disappointed as I could have been. The Saint Thomas Boys Choir is just so spectacular.
What fun! Have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous New Year!!!
I've really enjoyed your blog. A very Merry Christmas to you and your family. HTJ

@Pink One - Indeed! Thank you and Happy New Year to you!
@HTJ - Thank you so much, and let me say again how very happy I am to see your blog up. (Even if it is only for a limited run.) Happy New Year to you.
@Karena - Yes, it was fabulous and festive, but I was nodding off around 12:30 - way past my bedtime! Best wishes to you for the New Year.

The members of the Ladies Guild of the Leaders and Best - actually six former, University of Michigan, Notre Dame, Duke and Stanford straight white prepped male varsity athletes who like to "mix it up" in the kitchen to the benefit of family and friends - thank you for posting your sumptuous pumpkin pie recipe a few months back.
We whipped up a batch of a dozen or so (plus a few false starts) delectable pies to sate our collective traditional dessert addictions over the holiday season. Our secret recipe Bourbon infused organic heavy whipped cream provided the coup de grace!
We are willing to share our acclaimed Cassoulet recipe sometime in the near future pending some minor adjustments to reduce the disproportionate amount of Woodford Reserve and Canada Goose pate consumption during its preparation.
Life out here on the A2 frontier is as wild, woolly and tasty as ever.
@Old - Stories don't get any better than this. I wish I could have been there. No doubt your whipped cream is orders of magnitude more fun than mine.
