The Camp Shorts have a 7" inseam
Madras is iconic for summer wear along the New England Coast, arguably even more than seersucker. So, as the weather warmed up slightly, I was able to break out my Cape Madras
Camp Shorts.

The color is "Cannes"
Cape Madras, a Maine Coast vendor, makes the best madras shorts I have found. The authentic madras, made in Cape Madras' factory in India, is rich in color, soft to the touch, and has a classic and comfortable cut.

These shorts look great new, and will get even better with age.

I have a madras skirt and a pair of shorts and I love wearing them.
I hope to get another pair of shorts soon.
When my wife introduced me to her father he was wearing Harvard Madras
Love, love madras! Those look great on you! xoxo
Are these the true bleeding madras? That would be fantastic!
I can't wait to break out the Madras, especially after seeing how nice you look. 48 F here, so today ain't the day. Soon though, very soon.
Great to see that you broke out the white and the madras LONG before Memorial Day. I never liked silly rules like that. Madras shorts and white cable knits look great year round!
Just too cute, oh yeah the madras are nice also. Gotta love a woman in madras.
I have been hunting for madras fabric yardage and stumbled across their website. I almost emailed you to see what you thought of their products.
Timing is everything.
Cute outfit. Not too early in the season?
@suburban prep - Me too!
@Pete - I love it!
@Preppy 101 - I have always admired your profile madras swatch!
@Anonymous - To the best of my knowledge, bleeding madras is a thing of the past. The die used in these shorts was set.
@James - Ah, today was back in the 40s for us as well, with a little drizzle. We wore jackets instead of shorts.
@Shawn - I knew I would be called out on that. I'm playing fast and loose with the rules!
@thepreppytimes - Ha! I'll take it!
@lorrwill - How true, and yes, they are beautifully made. Worth noting that they will be opening a factory store in Freeport this May.
@Chens - Of course it is too early! But I am always pushing the seasons. I'll be the one attempting to wear tweed in late August.
Do the shorts run true to size?
@darby - The Camp Shorts do run true to size. The Bermudas, which I also own, have always had a roomier cut. To me, they seem to run somewhere between a half to a whole size larger.
Thanks so much!
Tweed in late August? You can get away with Tweed in early August here, or at least from the glorious 12th when the grouse season opens!
The shorts and sweater combination looks lovely on you. I'm planning to buy a pair of the madras bermuda shorts when I arrive in the US next week, so thank you for the tip on where to buy and the sizing.
Alas...it's cold and rainy again in our patch so the madras remains at bay for another stretch.
Looking great as always!
Nice looking. Happy Easter from a reader in Norway.
What shoes would you wear with an outfit like this?
Just bought a pair of bermudas in the "Vail" pattern. I really like thier patterns and the quality, but $90.00 for a pair of shorts is a little annoying. Having said that, I must not be too annoyed because I'm willing to pay it.
I love the bright summery colors. I'm going to have to wait to wear my madras though, we're still getting little bouts of snow.
I actually adore the white cableknit sweater you are wearing in these pictures- where did you purchase it??
@Recession is the New Blonde - It is actually a Men's Ralph Lauren v-neck. I don't remember exactly where I got it, but it was well over twelve years ago.
