I hadn't been to Mystic Seaport since I was quite little, and although it is a bit touristy, I still enjoyed some of the architecture. As with
Old Sturbridge Village, my own enthusiasm for the place as a suggested destination is tepid. Unlike with Old Sturbridge Village, however, one can enjoy Mystic Seaport almost completely without leaving a boat, which suits me.

| After a bit of waiting for both bridges, we headed over to Noank. |

| Noank, Connecticut is in my opinion even prettier seen by sea than by land. |

| There was not a lot of visual storm damage overall, but there were some dramatic examples. |

| Sadly, Abbott's was closed due to a lack of power, as was Costello's next door. |

great pictures, I keep my boat on A - dock at Seaport Marine, stern out she is called Madras 3 you go right by it on your way up the river, most boats circle in the wide area in front of me waiting for the draw bridge to open. There is always someting pretty floating by.....
I absolutely love these pictures! It's been too long since I was last in the Mystic area...closest I've been in the past year is Westerly, RI.
My favorite picture here is the overview of Noank from the water. The lighthouse is also very handsome.

This post brings a smile to my face. I grew up spending summers in Groton Long Point, a little summer community just outside Mystic, and ended up moving back to Mystic permanently for high school. (My childhood Golden was named Morgan, after the C.W.) Now up in West Hartford, which is significantly less charming, and as a result the photos are appreciated. Noank is, I think, the most beautiful and, to this day, largely authentic of the Connecticut seaside villages.
The photos are lovely. We had a nice day sailing yesterday. Our scenery isn't as picturesque as yours (we sail out of Marina del Rey in southern California) , but we have a nice, long sailing season here, and any day on the water is a good one!
I'm glad life is returning to normal in your area.

We visited Mystic one weekday in July but didn't get to Noank.
We thought about Abbott's for dinner but couldn't tell if it was a tourist trap - you know... one of those places which has been coasting on its reputation for 40 years.
It sounds as though you like it; is that a correct assumption? We'll be back in the area in the fall & will give it a try if you think it's worth it.

Great to see Noank. I am from New England but have spent very little time in coastal Connecticut. A college friend was from Noank (listed in the first-year facebook as "Mystic".) EVERYONE asked her about Mystic Pizza. I have never been... gorgeous area.

Many thanks for your Mystic and Noank post! I am from Groton Long Point (but now live in Boston) and my uncle owns the Mystic Shipyard, so I love seeing "my" beautiful places in blogs! We definitely lucked out with the storm damage, though your shot of "Christie's" house with the huge, gorgeous tree down makes my heart ache. So glad you had a nice time!
When traveling north on 95 north we always stop in Mystic and venture for a little slice of heaven at Mystic Pizza! It's worth the trip!

I learned to climb rigging as a young man on the Charles Morgan. I think we slept aboard as well. That was when people were allowed to do those things, of course.
I loved this post, my family owned a Hunter sailboat while I was growing up, and we docked it at Brewers on the Mystic River. So many familiar shots in this post! I also attended the Joseph Conrad Program at Mystic Seaport for several years in a row, and I would recommend it to anyone, it was a great time sailing!
