| The Ascot from Eliza B. |
I stopped by Bridgham & Cook in Freeport and bought these four lambswool tartan scarves made by Lochcarron of Scotland. I will keep two and give two away, but I am in a quandary as to which falls in which camp.
| I have a great-grandfather who was a Scott and another who was a Smith, but that has not helped the elimination process. |
Lemon and Line sent these new bracelets, which are made in Newport. They are a good "dress" nautical rope bracelets, now that I have mastered the clasp.
This is the result of our annual L.L. Bean Ragg Sock stock-up. Given we all wear the 12 inch Gray version, I have to sew a tiny bit of "designated color" thread at the top of each sock to insure the right person wears the right socks.
And I got the Men's Classic Fit cotton tattersall buttondown and Women's cotton cableknit crewneck.

I love the color of the Lauren cable sweater-is it khaki? Do you usually wear those cotton sweaters oversized (l or xl) or more to fit (m or l)?
Another question I have falls under the subject of preppy personal organizing (when not using an electronic device). I use a paper/binder agenda. If you use one, do you have one you recommend?
I use a Filofax - but am always questioning the size (pocket, personal, classic) and the binder material/style. I like to have it with me often though it can get heavy in a purse. I use it for my calendar but also for taking notes when seeing a dr., when shopping or when reading your blog!
Do you take your Eliza B sandal size with their flats?
They are all so appealing, I have debated ordering a pair since they introduced them. But, I am worried about the flats fitting differently than my go-to monogrammed sandals, especially considering they are custom order.
Thank you!
I say give away the two on the end, and keep the two in the middle! My motives are purely selfish--I already own the two in the middle, and wear them constantly. But on a less selfish note, your blonde hair would look stunning with the red!:)
@Anonymous 9:19 - The sweater is somewhat of a funny color - somewhere between a khaki and a mossy green. Their sizing is not always consistent so I alternate between a size L and an XL, with the XL being more of a loose fit. In addition to my iPad 2 and iPod Touch to access Google Calendar and other cloud services (Tasks, Contacts, Docs, Dropbox), I use a Moleskine Folio A4 Notebook Squared with a Pilot Precise V7 for freestyle notes and sketches, and I carry a set of Staedtloer Lumocolor markers when emphasis and/or a signature is needed.
@DMH - Per their recommendation, I take a size up (10)from my usual size (9) for the sandals. Their flats run true to size although I have worn both a 9 as well as a 10 - the 9 looks better and the 10 feels better!
I still hold a BITTER grudge against LL Bean for getting rid of the 16" Ragg Wool Sock - liked them much better than the shorter 12"
Muffy,
I hope you breakdown and buy a pair of Stubbs & Wooton's or Del Toro slippers! Even better a pair of Belgians:-)
I Hope you will at least Ck. out my slippers, I think you'll find the fabrics quite stunning and the quality in the true bespoke English style,, .... Just a few more days on the website!
As usual, exquisite taste and selection! Thank you for commenting on the sizing of Eliza B shoes; I'd love to own the tan plaid flats that were featured in your previous post. By the way, I am intrigued as to what traditional things sailormadras above will have to offer.
I picked up the same PRL tattersall and it is giving me fits - in the store it looked like a red/navy pattern, but in other light it looks orange and black (perfect for Halloween I suppose). But the logo is embroidered in blue thread leading me to the conviction that it must be blue/red pattern. Does Maine light make the colors appear any different!?
@Zenas313 - I see a Navy, Mossy Green/Hunter Green, and Brick Red pattern on a cream background.
Muffy, you are such a WONderful, AWful influence on me! Stopped in at McLaughlin in Westport today and had WAY too much fun; there goes my frugality campaign . . . sigh.
Love the tartan scarves. I immediately recognized the one on the far left, as it's Clan MacDonald and the one that I wear. The next time my family goes to England, we're hoping to get up to Scotland, at which point, I'll get my girls (middle schoolers, both) their first MacDonald woolens. It's not the same thing as giving them their first pearls at 16, but it's a fun tradition to start nonethless.
Please stop showing all these news bracelets. You're creating havoc with my Christmas budget!
I really like the look of those Eliza B. shoes! And the KJP ties are great; I think I might give my father one this year.
Hi Muffy,
First off, i want to say i love your blog.
I'm in the process of buying a jacket, more specificially barbour beaufort.
I'm a bit torn though if i should buy thornproof (either rustic or sage) or sylkoil version (olive).
Do you have any opinions? It's just for casual use. (which version do you got?).
Thanks in advance,
Hi Muffy,
I really like the Kiel James Patrick ties but I hesitated to buy one when I saw that they look a little thinner than most ties. Are they skinny ties?
I also have a question unrelated to the post about hair. What style of men's hair do you consider preppy?
Thank you for creating this blog and I wish you well.
@Anonymous 10:27 - I somewhat favor the thornproof in Sage, but only somewhat. I think it comes down to personal preference and don't believe any of them would be a mistake.
@Anonymous - I would not call it skinny. It is three inches at its widest point, the same as many J. Press ties. As for the hair - short, but not freakishly so.
Hi,
Where do you purchase your Ralph Lauren cotton cable neck sweaters? I have consistently been unable to find them in their retail stores or online, I can only find the cashmere versions. Please advise. Thanks!
Muffy,
Those scarves are wonderful, #2 and #4 look so great! The "dress nautical" rope bracelets look very cool as well. Great post!
The navy blue and kelly green tie is gorgeous to be sure (my favorite color combination).
The Lemon and Line bracelets are very cute and creative.....might be giving KJP a run for his money.
I got a great laugh out of the stockpile of ragg wool socks. Your idea to sew some color coding on them is wonderful. My mama used to just take a sharpie marker and put our initials on the under side of the heel. That would be the poor mans monogram method.
@Anonymous 11:13 - The only place that I can now find them is at the Ralph Lauren outlets.
I was so amused to see the stockpile of socks! I currently have a very similar collection (luckily, I'm not sharing laundry with my family at college!).
I'm also a big fan of Lemon & Line bracelets; I have the same navy one as you have pictured - love how you call them 'dress nauticals'.
Excellent choices for this autumn =)
I am enjoying your website immensely! Do you have a non-wool sock recommendation? I live in NC and it's rarely cold enough for wool. But I love the preppy look of these.
