Many friends have commented that this picture should make an appearance here. It has always captured a certain spirit that I appreciated, and I also always liked the coat and hat my father was wearing (bottom, right).

If your Dad is pictured bottom right in coat and hat, then was he not a Yale grad? If he was a Yale grad, which class was he, perhaps my dad and yours were classmates?

That's the correct, original version of the motto. The truncated version often seen is just an effort to make it fit more conveniently on t-shirts and bumper stickers.

As a Harvard grad, with two children who went to Brown and competed against Yale in three different sports....I think it is an excellent school and very beautiful. However....go Bruno!

What a delightful photograph. My felt banner of "For God, For Country, and For Yale" that I tacked up on the wall of my barn is now but a remnant of its former self, having been half-eaten by mice. I've never seen the one shown in the photo of your father and colleagues. Reggie

I love your picture! Our son John, whom you met in Orvis in the city, just was made a lieutenant in the Marine Corps...following in the footsteps of his grandfather Judge John M. Murtagh who was a Harvard Man...
I'll take my Air Force "wings" over the Navy's "anchor" any day. My grandfather, who was in the RAF, fought for the Americans in WWII, gained his citizenship and property in Kentucky (curiouser and curiouser). And no one in my family has served anywhere but the skies since then, as grandpa claimed "It was the closest to England" he felt. For God, For Country...For Heritage.
This is exceptional & so very appropriate considering I just helped edit a video for my school's newspaper about the on Campus NROTC attachment here at Penn.

Christy, Navy Wings of Gold still beat out AF "wings". Just teasing, married to a Naval aviator but come from multiple of Army Air Corp/AF senior officers so it is all in good fun. And by the bye, roar Lions roar!
