| The bow ties of my father may make an appearance at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). I left the wrinkle removal this time to the FIT experts. |
My father loved wearing bow ties, especially with tattersall shirts. He would wear them whether he was going out or not. He thought they "tidied him up". When I was younger I would often buy them for him, and as he got older I usually tied them for him.

Pictured above are a handful that I sent down to The Museum at FIT for their
upcoming exhibition in September. I also sent down a few more items, including his
Navy blazer which I was delighted to see included in their
(press) release.

I bought my husband a couple of neck ties, amongst other things, on Father's Day. The shop I purchased them from had a nice sale on bow ties as well. My son (13 years old) loves bow ties. I just about purchased him a small collection, however, there is a small problem. I haven't the slightest clue how to tie one. I do tie his neck ties on Sunday before we head off to church, but never had the experience with bow ties, so I skipped the sale... and that almost broke my heart.
I've only started wearing bow ties recently, and not (yet) very often.
Navy blue with white polka dots and one that is a map of the London Underground. I don't think that qualifies as preppy, but it is certainly fun and a good conversation starter!
In my field, male pediatricians wore bow ties all the time to avoid the inevitable consequence of examining a naked male baby!
Are you going to the Ivy Style symposium? I think it will be great.

@Trip - A good question. I was wondering the same thing!
I love bow ties and wear them at least once a week (I only wear ties about thrice a week). With a perpetually sticky-handed seven-month-old, bow ties are the only choice to avoid ruined neck-wear.
With regards to your father's J. Press blazer, it's really a shame that such a glaring error would make it to a press release. The 3/2 sack blazer is such a quintessential feature of ivy league style and it's disappointing that they couldn't get it right. I still have high hopes for the exhibit, though.

I guarantee that you know how to tie a bow tie. Hint: it's the same knot you use to tie shoe laces.
Bow ties definitely exude class and style. I would love to read your take on pearls!
Let us allow the museum personnel some benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the blazer is buttoned so heinously incorrectly to generate comment, thereby extending the power of the announcement.
I've been hooked on bow tie ever since I saw Professor Kingsfield(aka John Houseman)in the movie "The Paper Chase" about first year law students students coping with the Harvard Law! The movie is a real keeper
I also enjoyed Houseman's old Smith Barney TV commercials with infamous line "We do it the old fashion way we earn it!"
I am amazed how good my father's BB ties look from the 1970's.
