Strawberry Shortcake

From the Farmer's Market Today
This is the time for native strawberries.




Strawberries growing in rows in the field.

At a Farm Stand
  
Biscuits:
  • 2 cups flour (I substitute ½ cup with whole wheat) 
  • 3 tsp baking powder 
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • ¼ cup butter 
  • ¾ cup whole milk 
Mix together and pat out ½ inch thick biscuits onto ungreased baking sheet
Bake at 450 degree (hot oven) for about 10 minutes or until golden


Then:

Cut up quart(s) of native strawberries and sweeten with sugar to taste
Beat whipping cream until desired thickness and sweeten with sugar, if desired, to taste.

Delightful! I could just eat that for dinner and call it good.
Unfortunately, the recent storm and tornado in our area has destroyed my garden. I don't think I'm too far into the season that I can't replant though. Maybe it just means I'll have later producing crops.

LOVED the picture of your strawberry shortcake.That is exactly how my midwestern mother has always done it.Shortcake must be with biscuits and of course it never hurts to have only strawberry shortcake for the occ. Sunday supper.

Hope you inspired some people to try the real deal.

I'll bet that's about sixty points on Weight Watchers, but you only live once.
My mother made Strawbery Shortcake in a very similar way. There's nothing like you very own whipped cream.
I've used some of your other recipes and can't wait to try this one. YUM!

It brought back sweet memories of summers at our summer house on Long Beach Island, eating our favorite dessert of the season, my mother's strawberry shortcake. She always served it with freshly whipped cream or cream in a pitcher. Those of us who couldn't make up their mind helped ourselves to both!
