A View from Mount Battie, Camden, Maine

The View of Camden from Mount Battie

To anyone visiting the Camden, Maine area, it is easy to recommend a short trip to the Camden Hills State Park and up to the summit of Mount Battie.  It is touristy (so go off season if possible), but the views are spectacular.

I have a photo from the same viewpoint in July! It looks just as gorgeous, if not more so, in October... wish we were there!

Beautiful! I'm planning an autumn vacation to Maine for next year. Can't wait! What a treat for a Southern prep.

The theme music from Peyton Place soars symphonically through my mind....

I was a sailing instructor at the Camden Yacht Club during my teens long ago. On calm, foggy days we'd occasionally all climb up to the summit of Mt. Battie for the view out over the fog-bond bay. It was good exercise and a nice change. One hike I remember especially clearly. As I shepherded the gang from the rear I overheard some of the younger girls pondering aloud among themselves about sex and birth control. I was a bit alarmed and had to interrupt and correct a misconception: "Birth control pills aren't a one-time thing. They have to be taken as a regular medication or they won't work." They looked dubious, and I've always wondered if they believed me.
