A true gem. I LOVE IT.
Nice to see Maxminimus in there, I'm a fan.

I admire those Daily Prep slides.

If I might ask, why did your husband present and not you? I had assumed the blog was largely your idea/writing/project?

Muffy Aldrich said...

@LPC - We share everything!

Great stuff. Hanging out with both Dusty and Tinseth....I know you had as good time. I certainly did when I met these gents.

Was there for the second day. Clark did a superb job during the blogger roundtable. The entire room was wondering, though: "Where was Muffy?" You were sorely missed! Reggie

I live in the South and there are many people that rock the pink/green, are Republicans, wear bowties/Polo and preppy brands, and are in sororities. I wonder what are the differences between the Southern and Northern preps. Also, is the term "prep" exclusive to Caucasians?

Muffy Aldrich said...

@Reggie - Thank you so very much for your kind words. And I tip my hat to you for your ability (as a very popular blogger) to walk about such an event unrecognized.

@anonymous 5:50 - I can explain the difference as I was born/raised in the deep south but have also lived in New England. In the south we wear a bit more colorful and the southern ladies would never step outside their bedroom door without their pearls and makeup. As a matter of fact, it is considered extremely rude/unladylike to go out in public without either. Northern/New England ladies go for a more natural look, donning just a touch of lipstick, if that. But like southern ladies you'll never see them without their pearls!

Anonymous: There is also a prep thread in the African-American community(s) although mostly hidden to most who write and think on preppies, whatever their stripe. AAs also have an upper class similar in some respects to the WASP set. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it does not exist. :)

"Southern Prep" is an oxymoron. Just like "Texas Prep". Prep, by definition, is northeast/New England. Each region has its own look and should be celebrated, but not confused.

So, the current CEO of Brooks Brothers sports a goatee and wears a tan summer suit in November in the city? Criminy!

What a wonderful slide show!

That 1930s seersucker double breasted from Brooks Brothers, was darted?

Justin Jeffers said...

@katahdin - you must also remember that Mr. Del Vecchio is also Italian...

@Muffy - Pleasure meeting your husband and hearing him speak at ISS. Keep up the good fight.

@ anonymous 10:09 Au contraire.....
Prep/WASP is not relegated to the Northeast. You are not the only people to have patriots that fought in the American Revolution. You are not the only people to come from old money WASP families. (I hate the term 'prep').

I KNOW that any event where Dusty participates is a fun event. And Reggie, too!

Southern, Northern, seersucker or chamois--whatever, we all live the life and wear the style. For heaven's sake let's not start "fighting" amongst ourselves, we're rare birds now and can't afford fragmentation!

Muffy has stated repeatedly that as she sees it, graciousness, authenticity and noblesse oblige are qualities not restricted to a certain region or race. Just dress nicely, party hearty and mind your manners already!

Is the book now available to the general public through Amazon and other outlets?

The current CEO of Brooks Bros., Claudio del Vecchio has done much to "trash" the brand. Examples: include the sissified men's looks, the exaggerated skinny clothes for men, some of the men's shoes that quite frankly are design atrocities and in incredibly bad taste. Many of the men's trousers and shirts are now being cut excessively slim and the move back to very narrow ties ala MAD MEN is unwarranted and unwanted by many longtime BB customers like myself.

Del Vecchio is also "running up" price tags in what I believe is an obvious cash grab, while for quite a few products, the legendary quality is now gone. Others who post here have commented on that as well.

Quite frankly, some of the products now carry price tags that defy and logical reasoning as to the current price point vs. previous historical pricing. Like many merchants, one must now shop selectively while at Brooks Bros. and I attribute that to its current ownership and the fact that the company has been sold so many times in the last 25 years.

The slide show was GREAT! and a wonderful re-telling (all in one place) of photos from past posts.

Bravo!

Mr. Press and Mr. Winston (my tailor for 30 years) are the real deal. Mr. Del Vecchio is not.

Thank you, Greenfield.

Just had the chance to check out the web site and am going to schedule a visit to the exhibit. I live near two of the Seven Sisters and a little ivy and pray that maybe - just maybe - this exhibit will have a smidge of influence. You would not believe what passes for an ensemble here. One colleague constantly grumbles about the eye pollution.

I enjoyed seeing many of my favorite photos from The Daily Prep in the slide deck, including the one of Muffy holding the chicken in snow.

Muffy,
The FIT affair...I'm so jealous! Is ADG as fun in person? I know he loves his Martini's at 21! Got away to the Low Country down in South Carolina! Weather was in the upper 70's!

I adore your blog. There are some emerging Made in USA and high quality simple vendors that are reassuring as quality degrades at the staples. Steven Alan made in the USA, Everlane for basics well made for example.
