| Here was the view of Winnipesaukee a few days ago from my husband's family place. It has been bitter cold in New Hampshire this week. |

When, with the passing of many years, a year-round summer person has worn out several sets of snow tires and long underwear, paid property taxes many times, toughed out a few winters without either Florida or Arizona, raised a succession of vegetable gardens, and become a legal resident, "you qualify for the highest attainable accolade " says Jim Brunelle. "You are now 'from away'. Strive for nothing beyond this. You've had it."

The water photo makers me feel cold just looking at it.
Love the sweet little swags tied to the trees. The snow covered road in the trees is spectacular. Do you having any siblings? Would you like to adopt a older sister... I could so get into visiting you and your wonderful life!
We were in Maine over the New Year. So cold, so beautiful, so wonderful! Happy New Year!
Beautiful pictures!
Happy New Year!
It has been a cold week. The water in Wolfeboro Bay iced up overnight.
@Anonymous 7:57 - Thanks for the comment. Next - ice fishing!
The lagoon is officially iced over. While beautiful, it has practically eliminated living room duck watching. I have a particular fondness for the group of buffleheads that returns every winter to this little spot.
As a former summer resident who officially transitioned only after a tough decade or so (despite being born in town like a number of generations before me), the Judson Hale quote resonates. I think the Liberal Arts term for the feeling is being "otherized".
I just stumbled upon your blog and love it. I spent the last two hours perusing. I wish I had found your site before Christmas! I see you follow Broadturn Farm's blog, I shoot weddings and events there all the time. You have gained a new loyal reader! Stay warm in New Hampshire, it is bitter here in Portland.
Great photos. We'd like to become adopted siblings too! We hope to be transplanted to the Maine coast some day. Meanwhile:
Our Morgan car club (Morgans of Philadelphia aka MOPs)are getting to together to see Hyde Park on the Hudson tomorrow night. Any reviews?
Love the picture of your dog-in-law on your Tumblr site!
Brrrrrrrr-berry! ;)
Fantastic! Oh, how I can smell the pine and feel the crisp, cold air just by looking at these pictures.
Love the swags!
Beautiful photos, even if the one of the water gives me the chills. You will have to take a picture of the same spot come spring for comparison. Happy New Year!
Not terribly relevant to these lovely photos (I can practically feel the cold- brrr!) but I was admiring the pink sweater you're wearing in the new picture on the right sidebar. Could you give us more information on it?
Yes, Muffy. About that pink sweater..........?
@Janjan and Anonymous - It is from Hanna Andersson from many years back. They offered it again this past season but I could not find it on their site today.
Hey Muffy, have you heard of Castaway Clothing? I have not purchased any of their items but they look good and I was wondering if you have.
@Anonymous 5:25 - I was talking to the Murray's owner (Murray's Toggery, Nantucket) about Castaway a few months back. Castaway is owned by her children. I have not tried any of their products and I have a sneaking suspicion that their products are made in China. I know my Nantucket Reds from Murray's are. (Which just isn't right.) To me they seem like another Vineyard Vines - focusing on marketing over manufacturing - over-selling an island "brand" and island "lifestyle" but outsourcing to China.
Oh I see. Have you given up on Vineyard Vines? I still think that some of their ties are nice and they are one the few American made items that they sell.
@Anonymous 6:27 - When they first started out I would buy their ties at the small, local shops where they were sold in various coastal towns. I also got some of their tote bags and polo shirts.
Muffy,
We up on Lake Winnipesaukee about this time for my nieces wedding! Lot's of snow very cold beautiful!
Happy New Year Muffy!
